Happy Summer Friends!
Good bye my little Kinder Gems! I have truly enjoyed my time teaching your children; they have grown so much and in more ways than one. I feel sad to see them go, but I look forward to seeing them in the yard next year as they go through the journey of Senior Kindergarten! Thank you for your support this year from providing snacks, to joining us on field trips, to being patient as I try my hand at this new way of communicating, and supporting your child with their new responsibilities connected with school. I have had a great year with your child and know that I am going to miss them horribly! What a dynamic group of kids! We are so lucky.........

Party Time!
The end is sooooo near; time flies! Our last classroom party is on the 27th of June! It is really just a big old snack for the kids and a free play with a twist of tidying up! Now that has party written all over it!
The following families have volunteered to provide snacks for the day:
Cheese & Crackers: The Janoska's
Veggies & Dip: The Smith's
Cupcakes: oops...family moved. Anyone interested?
Cookies: The Wojcik's
Juice & Cups: The Walker's
Fruit: open...anyone able?
There are a few open spots; if anyone is interested please just send me a note in your child's note tote. Thank you so much. On behalf of the children and myself, we are so greatful for the wonderful treats that have been provided throughout the school year!

Is It Warm Enough For You?
Actually too warm! Due to the heatwave, we are having to postpone our fieldtrip to Kinburn Berries until Tuesday June 26th. I know the children have been waiting patiently, so this should be interesting! Please send your new permission form back as soon as possible.

House Cleaning
I have to say....sorry for the amounts of things that I have been hoarding away in the classroom. Over the next few days I will be sending my stacks of their work home! It is amazing how quickly the year goes; I can't believe we are on the last leg!

Dental Health
Just a heads up about the visitor we will be expecting in the classroom today or tomorrow.
The following is information provided by the school board:
As a follow up to this visit, we have invited a Public Health Nurse to deliver a child friendly lesson on dental health for June 19th and 20th. We will also be sending your child home with their own little loot bag full of goodies provided by Colgate!
The following is information provided by the school board:
A registered dental hygienist
from Ottawa Public Health, will provide a dental screening using a
tongue depressor and non-latex gloves on June 11 & 12, 2012. Only children
identified as having dental needs will bring home a form. Follow-up school
visits by the dental hygienist for individual children may be done. This does
not replace regular dental visits with your family dentist. This is offered in
accordance with the Ontario Ministry of Health Promotion and Sport, Mandatory
Health Programs under the Health Protection and Promotion Act. Personal Health
Information is collected under the authority of the Health Protection and
Promotion Act and will be used for the purpose of dental assessment, treatment
and oral hygiene instruction, and for statistical purposes. Questions
concerning the collection and use of this information should be directed to the

Got Groceries?
Our house center is changing to a grocery store! if you happen to remember can you please help stock our shelves by sending in clean, empty containers for the children to use! We'll make shopping lists from flyers and environmental print, and we'll also use and explore coin values. Thanks for helping us to make this a successful, hands on learning opportunity!

Is That A Real Word?
We have these educational cubes at school that you can use for as many purposes as you can think of! Recently we would roll one die containing a consonant, another with a vowel, and another with other consonants and then think about the sounds associated with each of the letters. After sounding the word out we would then decide if it was a real or silly word and print it under the appropriate heading. This was a really fun way for the children to put their knowledge to work, but also a great refresher of letters and their sounds for those who are still plugging away at mastering this skill.
I've included "hav" as a real word since it does exactly sound like that phonetically and I would certainly think that it was age appropriate for the children if they used "hav" in any independent writing. Learning opportunities pop up at the most random times. This was one of those impromptu moments when we explored "greater than" and "less than".
